agent. You don't have an agent. You're not going to be able to audi- tion [without an agent]. If you don't audition, you can't get jobs.'
How old were you when this happened? I had just turned seventeen, and I said to my parents, 'Listen, I'd love to move to New York. I'd love to get an internship, somewhere, just to meet people because right now I have no one to call. I have no connections.' With the help and support of my parents we got something called The Ross Reports, which have a list of all the cast- ing directors in New York City. So I wrote, with the help of my par- ents, a bunch of letters saying, 'I'm a kid. I'm seventeen. I'm trying to learn. If you need someone to get your coffee, answer your phones, I'm the guy.
' I wrote these letters and two or three places
wrote back, and I went to a couple interviews. I settled on this one job that gave me the most responsibility. It put me on phones. It was a casting office for Spin City. Remember back when Michael J. Fox was on Spin City? My summer job was to set up actors. I'd pick up the phone and these agents would submit their clients for these
