editors' letters T he official beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere was September 22. Funny, since it often still feels like summer well into September around New England these days and that was never the case growing up in Newton back in the 1970s. The temperature dropped in early September. Fall was cool, and colorful vibrant leaves were plentiful. Writer Steve Maas provides us with creative ideas to make the most of these beautiful gifts of nature and have fun while doing it in this issue's 10 tips, Put away your rakes: 10 tips for fall leaves. Things are certainly changing on many levels and our feature story, The Times They are A-Changin' — Cannabis and Our Kids, is packed with valuable information pertaining to the legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts and the potential impact it will have on our children. It is a serious, yet informative story and a must-read for all, especially parents of teenagers. On a lighter note, we are introduced to six local and unique busi- nesses that operate out of one of the six North Bridge communities. I had the opportunity to meet with or speak with the owners and was impressed by all. There is something special about a truly local business and we are lucky to have them. Speaking of lucky, that is the first word that comes to mind when I look at and admire my two rescue dogs, Henry and Rosita. Buddy Dog courageously rescued them from dire situations in South Carolina and Puerto Rico, respectively. In our good works story, Rescue a Dog and Change a Life, we learn about the amazing work two Sudbury-based shelters, Buddy Dog and Save a Dog, are doing to help homeless dogs and cats find loving homes. Collectively, these outfits place close to 100 dogs and cats monthly into local homes. I hope you enjoy the issue and learn something new from our stories. Best wishes for an enjoyable fall, and a happy and healthy holi- day season.
